Uneven concrete is a safety hazard. Whether it’s a sunken driveway, a tilted patio, or a tripping hazard on your sidewalk, these issues don’t fix themselves. Over time, they only get worse.

Sunken concrete happens for a reason. Poor soil compaction, erosion, and freeze-thaw cycles can cause slabs to shift and sink. Left untreated, the problem can lead to costly repairs or even full concrete replacement. But there’s a faster, more affordable solution: concrete lifting.

In this article, you’ll learn:

Let’s dive in.

What is Concrete Lifting?

Concrete lifting is a process used to raise sunken slabs back to their original level without the need for costly replacement. Instead of tearing out and replacing damaged concrete, this method injects material underneath the slab to fill voids and lift it into place.

Sunken concrete is a common issue caused by soil erosion, poor compaction, and freeze-thaw cycles. Over time, gaps form beneath the slab, which leaves it unsupported. Eventually, the weight of the concrete causes it to sink and creates uneven surfaces and potential tripping hazards.

A common area where this occurs is driveways. Many homeowners wonder what causes a driveway to sink, and the answer often lies in shifting soil, improper drainage, and natural settling over time. Understanding the root cause can help prevent further damage.

Traditionally, homeowners and businesses would replace their concrete, which is expensive, time-consuming, and disruptive. Concrete lifting is the smarter alternative—it’s quicker, more affordable, and prevents further damage. Whether it’s a sidewalk, driveway, or patio, lifting the slab restores safety and functionality without the mess of a full replacement.

The Process of Concrete Lifting

Here is the entire process of concrete lifting.

Step 1 – Inspection

Every project begins with a detailed assessment. A professional examines the affected concrete slabs to identify voids, sinking patterns, and underlying causes. This step ensures that the right lifting technique is used for long-lasting results.

Step 2 – Drilling Injection Holes

To raise the slab, small holes (typically less than an inch wide) are drilled into the surface. These holes provide access to the void beneath the concrete, where the lifting material will be injected. Unlike full slab replacement, this process is minimally invasive and requires fewer resources.

Step 3 – Foam Injection and Lifting

The key to effective concrete lifting is the injection of polyurethane foam. Once injected, the foam expands, filling the empty space beneath the slab. This expansion re-establishes support, evenly lifting the concrete to its original height. Unlike mudjacking, which uses a heavy slurry that may sink over time, polyurethane foam is lightweight, strong, and long-lasting.

Step 4 – Finishing and Cleanup

Once the slab is back in place, the drilled holes are sealed, and the surface is cleaned. The process is quick—most areas can be walked or driven on within a few hours. No need to wait days for curing like in traditional concrete work.

For a detailed look at how professionals ensure precise lifting and leveling, check out {{dc:global:site_title}} process for lifting and leveling concrete. Our method guarantees long-term results with minimal disruption.

Polyurethane Concrete Lifting vs. Mudjacking

When it comes to lifting sunken slabs, there are two main options: polyurethane foam lifting and mudjacking. While both methods aim to raise and level concrete, polyurethane lifting has become the superior choice due to its efficiency and durability.

Polyurethane Foam Lifting

  • Lightweight and non-invasive – The foam is lightweight and prevents further soil compression.
  • Quick curing time – The injected foam expands rapidly, which allows the slab to be used within hours.
  • Longer-lasting results – The foam is water-resistant and doesn’t break down over time, which also ensures lasting support.

Mudjacking

  • Heavy material – Mudjacking uses a dense slurry that can add too much weight and worsens the sinking issue.
  • Longer curing time – Since it relies on a cement-based mixture, drying can take a full day or more.
  • Requires larger holes – Mudjacking requires drilling bigger injection holes, which makes the process more invasive.

Polyurethane lifting is the smarter choice for homeowners and businesses looking for a fast, reliable, and long-term solution. Unlike mudjacking, which can cause further settling, polyurethane stabilizes the slab, eliminates voids, and prevents future sinking—all with minimal disruption.

Benefits of Concrete Lifting

Here are the benefits of concrete lifting.

Cost-Effective Alternative

Concrete lifting is significantly cheaper than full slab replacement. Instead of demolishing and pouring new concrete, you can lift and level existing slabs for a fraction of the cost.

Fast and Minimal Downtime

Most concrete slab lifting projects are completed in a few hours, and you can use the surface the same day. No long curing periods, and no waiting weeks for new concrete to set.

Eco-Friendly Solution

Using polyurethane foam to not only fill voids but also stabilize the soil eliminates the need for heavy excavation. It reduces waste, preserves resources, and minimizes disruption to the surrounding area.

Durability and Longevity

Polyurethane foam is waterproof and resistant to weather changes, unlike traditional materials that erode over time. It provides long-term stability, which prevents future sinking and cracking.

Safety Improvement

Uneven sidewalks, driveways, and patios pose tripping hazards for homeowners, pedestrians, and businesses. Concrete lifting eliminates these risks and creates a smooth, level surface without needing costly reconstruction.

Uneven concrete is more than just an eyesore. It’s a tripping hazard, a maintenance headache, and a potential liability. Sunken concrete can create serious problems if left unchecked regardless of whether it’s your driveway, sidewalk, patio, or garage floor.

Over time, soil erosion, weather changes, and poor installation can cause concrete slabs to settle unevenly. This not only looks bad but can also lead to water pooling, cracks, and structural damage. The longer you wait, the worse it gets—and the more expensive the fix.

In this article, you will learn:

  • Why concrete levelling is essential for safety and property value.
  • The most effective methods for concrete levelling.
  • How to choose a reliable concrete levelling service.

Let’s dive into the details of why concrete levelling is crucial and how it works.

What Causes Concrete to Sink?

Concrete slabs don’t just sink overnight. It’s a slow process caused by natural soil movement, weather changes, and improper installation. If you’ve noticed uneven surfaces around your residential property, understanding the root causes can help prevent further damage.

Soil Shifting and Erosion

Over time, the ground beneath your concrete slab moves. Water runoff, poor drainage, or tree roots pulling moisture from the soil can create voids under the slab. Without support, the concrete settles, which creates an uneven surface.

Freeze-Thaw Cycles

In places like Canada, where winter temperatures fluctuate, the ground expands and contracts repeatedly. This movement weakens the soil, which leads to sinking and cracking.

Poor Installation & Soil Compaction

If the soil wasn’t properly compacted before the concrete was poured, it can settle unevenly over time. This is especially common in new residential areas. Proper planning and material selection are crucial in preventing these issues.

Water Drainage Issues

Excess water can wash away soil from under your concrete slab and leave unsupported gaps. In fact, proper drainage is key to preventing sinking regardless of whether it’s a patio, driveway, or walkway.

Concrete Levelling vs. Replacement: Which One is Better?

If your concrete slab has started to sink, you might wonder whether to replace it entirely or opt for concrete levelling. While replacement may seem like a long-term solution, it’s often unnecessary and more expensive.

Cost Comparison

Concrete levelling is typically 50-70% cheaper than a full replacement. Removing old slabs, preparing the ground, and pouring new concrete requires more labor, time, and materials, which makes it a costly choice.

Time Efficiency

Levelling can be done in a few hours, whereas replacing a concrete slab takes several days due to demolition, curing, and finishing.

Environmental Impact

Concrete replacement generates waste. Levelling techniques like polylevel foam injection reuse existing materials, which makes it an eco-friendly alternative.

Durability

Modern methods, such as polyurethane foam injection, offer long-lasting results. Unlike traditional repairs, the foam expands to fill voids, which prevents future sinking.

For most residential and commercial areas, levelling is the smarter, more cost-effective solution—especially when using Canadian concrete levelling methods like polylevell foam.

Methods of Concrete Levelling – Pros & Cons

There are several ways to lift and stabilize sunken concrete slabs, each with its own advantages and drawbacks. Choosing the right method depends on the type of project, budget, and long-term durability.

Mudjacking (Slab Jacking)

Mudjacking involves pumping a thick cement slurry beneath a concrete slab to raise it. This method is affordable and works well for large areas like driveways and parking lots. Since the material is heavier, it can handle heavier loads compared to other levelling techniques. However, the added weight can sometimes lead to future settling. Another drawback is the larger holes that must be drilled into the slab, which can weaken its structure over time.

Polyurethane Foam Injection (Polylevel Foam)

A more modern approach is polyurethane foam injection, often referred to as polylevel foam. This technique involves injecting a lightweight, expanding foam beneath the slab to lift and stabilize it. One of its biggest advantages is its fast curing time—most surfaces are ready to use within minutes.

The foam is also moisture-resistant, which makes it an excellent choice for preventing erosion and future settling. Unlike mudjacking, it requires smaller drill holes, which helps preserve the slab’s appearance. The only downside is that it tends to be slightly more expensive, and it requires trained professionals with specialized equipment to apply it correctly.

Grout Pumping

Grout pumping is another technique used to stabilize concrete slabs, but it is mostly suited for industrial and commercial projects rather than residential applications. A cement-based grout mixture is injected under the slab, reinforcing weak soil conditions.

While effective for large-scale projects, its heavy material makes it impractical for most residential driveways or sidewalks. Additionally, the process can be costlier than polylevel foam when used for smaller repairs.

How to Choose the Right Concrete Levelling Contractor

Not all concrete levelling services are the same. Choosing the right contractor ensures you get a long-lasting, high-quality repair that won’t need fixing again in a few years.

Start by looking at experience and reviews. A reputable contractor should have a history of successful projects, with positive customer feedback and real before-and-after photos. Companies that specialize in polyurethane foam injection often produce the most durable results, so check if they use modern materials instead of outdated methods like mudjacking.

Next, consider warranty and guarantees. A quality repair should last for years, and trusted companies offer multi-year warranties to back up their work. If a contractor doesn’t provide a guarantee, it might be a red flag.

Lastly, find a contractor with local knowledge. In areas like Lethbridge, where freeze-thaw cycles impact soil stability, experienced professionals will know how to prevent future sinking. A good contractor ensures the concrete stays levell for years to come.

Fix Your Concrete Today

Sunken concrete doesn’t just look bad but is also a safety hazard and a costly problem waiting to get worse. Concrete levelling is an affordable, quick, and durable solution that can restore your driveway, patio, or walkway in just a few hours.

If you’re searching for concrete repair, chances are you’ve got sunken steps, a cracked driveway, or maybe an uneven garage floor that’s starting to feel like a hazard. These aren’t just cosmetic issues. Left untreated, they can create tripping hazards, water drainage problems, and lower your property’s value.

In this article, you will learn:

  • What causes concrete to sink, crack, or shift
  • The best repair options available in Calgary
  • How to tell when it’s time to call in the pros

Let’s start with why concrete fails in the first place.

Why Concrete Fails in Calgary’s Climate

Concrete might look tough, but in Calgary’s unpredictable climate, even the strongest concrete surfaces can take a beating.

The freeze-thaw cycle is a major culprit. Water seeps into cracks or joints, freezes, and expands, which breaks apart concrete from the inside. Over time, this cycle leads to spalling, crumbling edges, and uneven slabs. Combine that with poor soil compaction or erosion under the surface, and your sidewalk, patio, or driveway could start to sink or crack.

For a deeper understanding of the underlying problems, here’s a closer look at what causes a driveway to sink. These factors often go unnoticed until the damage becomes visually or physically significant.

For many homeowners and property managers, these issues pop up within just a few years of the original construction.

In commercial spaces, the impact is often worse. Uneven walkways or warehouse floors create safety risks and disrupt daily operations. A sunken slab near a storefront can quickly turn into a liability issue.

This kind of concrete damage doesn’t go away on its own. In fact, the longer you wait, the more it can cost to fix. Repairing concrete structures quickly preserves functionality, improves curb appeal, and protects the structural integrity of your property.

Fortunately, not every problem requires a full replacement. There are smarter, faster ways to restore concrete, and we’ll cover those next.

Concrete Repair Options: Pros and Cons

When it comes to damaged concrete, there’s no one-size-fits-all fix. Your ideal solution depends on the extent of the problem and the purpose of the surface.

For small cracks or minor spalling, ready-to-use patch kits and concrete repair products like filler, adhesive, or sealant can work well. Brands like Sika offer DIY options for vertical and horizontal repairs that are paintable and designed for exterior use. They’re fine for surface-level cracks, but won’t help if the slab is sinking or unstable.

Resurfacing is another method, often used on decks, porches, and basement floors with cosmetic wear. A resurfacer creates a new top layer, which restores the look but does not fix underlying structural issues.

For more serious problems like settled slabs or uneven surfaces, people often consider mudjacking or full slab replacement. Mudjacking involves pumping a mortar-like mixture under the slab to lift it. It works, but it’s messy, heavier, and takes longer to cure.

A more modern alternative is polyurethane foam lifting. This method uses lightweight, self-levelling, high-strength foam injected under the concrete. It expands quickly, fills voids, and lifts the slab with minimal disruption. It’s cleaner, faster, and far more precise, which is ideal for both residential and commercial use.

For long-term durability and minimal downtime, polyurethane offers one of the most high-performance and cost-effective solutions available today.

How Polyurethane Concrete Lifting Works

Polyurethane lifting is a smart, mess-free way to bring sunken concrete back to level.

Here’s how it works: A trained contractor drills small holes, about the size of a coin, into the slab. Through these, a two-part polyurethane mix is injected with a special nozzle and cartridge system. Once underground, the foam expands to fill voids, stabilize weak soil, and gently lift the concrete back into place.

To see how this process is handled from start to finish, explore the process for lifting and levelling concrete. This detailed breakdown highlights the steps professionals take to ensure accurate and lasting results.

For Calgary’s climate and soil conditions, polyurethane is ideal. It resists moisture, won’t erode over time, and provides a waterproof, stable base. Unlike some traditional building materials, it handles the freeze-thaw cycle without breaking down. It also adheres well to both concrete block and masonry surfaces, preserving the structure’s integrity.

Another major advantage?

Speed. The foam cures in minutes, not days, so your walkway, driveway, or loading dock is ready for use the same day. No long drying times, no torn-up landscaping, and minimal disruption.

If you’re managing a tight timeline or need to keep your business running, it’s a high-performance option that checks all the boxes for durable, lasting results.

Signs You Need Concrete Repair

Not sure if it’s time to start a concrete repair project? Watch for these warning signs.

The most common clue is visible cracking, especially if the lines are widening or forming trip hazards. If sections of your driveway, patio, or walkway are starting to sink or shift, that’s another red flag. You might also notice pooling water around the edges after a rain, which can cause long-term deterioration.

For businesses, uneven floors or settling around doorways and loading areas could mean the foundation is shifting.

These aren’t just cosmetic issues; they affect functionality and can become serious liability concerns.

If ignored, the damage often spreads. A small crack can turn into a large leak. A slightly sunken slab can pull away from the structure, damaging stucco, brick, or even anchors and bolts holding adjacent building materials in place.

That’s why it’s smart to act early.

Whether you’re dealing with minor repairs or something more extensive, timely maintenance helps protect your investment and avoids the higher cost of full-scale restoration or renovation down the road.

Protect Your Property with the Right Concrete Repair Approach

Concrete problems don’t get better with time, they get more expensive.

As we’ve covered, Calgary’s freeze-thaw cycles and unstable soils can lead to cracking, sinking, and serious deterioration of your concrete surfaces. We explored how various repair work methods, from basic DIY concrete patches to full slab replacements, offer different pros and cons depending on the damage. And we walked through how polyurethane foam lifting provides a high-quality, fast-curing, and long-lasting solution for both homes and businesses.

Spray foam insulation is changing how Canadians keep their homes comfortable year-round.

If you’re tired of high energy bills, cold floors in winter, or stuffy rooms in summer, you’re not alone. Many homeowners search for a better way to insulate, something that actually works in our climate. Spray foam insulation offers a smarter, longer-lasting solution that goes beyond what traditional materials can do.

In this article, you will learn:

  • How spray foam insulation improves comfort and energy efficiency
  • Where it works best in homes and buildings
  • Why it outperforms other types of insulation

Let’s take a closer look at what makes spray foam such a reliable choice.

What Is Spray Foam Insulation?

Spray foam insulation is a high-performance insulating material that’s spray-applied as a liquid and expands to fill gaps, cracks, and cavities. It creates an airtight seal that helps reduce heat transfer, air leaks, and moisture problems in both residential and commercial buildings.

There are two main types of spray foam: open-cell and closed-cell. Open-cell spray foam is lighter and softer, expanding more and offering excellent sound dampening. Closed-cell spray foam, or closed-cell foam, is denser, provides a higher R-value per inch, and acts as both an air and vapour barrier, ideal for unvented attics, crawl spaces, or wall cavities exposed to moisture.

Both types of SPF (spray polyurethane foam) improve a building’s energy performance, but closed-cell spray foam insulation offers the highest R-value and resistance to heat flow. It’s one of the most efficient insulation products available today.

When properly installed, spray foam provides long-term energy savings and increased comfort.

Key Benefits of Spray Foam Insulation

Many homes lose energy through air leakage, gaps in insulation, and poor resistance to heat flow. Spray polyurethane insulation fixes all three problems at once.

Energy Efficiency and Cost Savings

Spray foam provides one of the highest R-values per inch among insulation materials. This high thermal resistance helps reduce heat transfer and keeps warm or cool air where it belongs.

Over time, it can significantly reduce energy costs tied to heating and cooling. Compared to traditional insulation products like fibreglass or cellulose, spray foam is often more effective in preventing energy loss.

Air Sealing and Moisture Barrier

Unlike other materials, spray foam acts as both an air barrier and a vapour barrier. It expands into tight areas and seals off air infiltration around windows and doors, electrical outlets, and attic spaces.

This tight air seal prevents drafts and helps control indoor humidity, which protects against mould and moisture damage.

Closed-cell spray foam, in particular, has a higher density and cell structure that resists water penetration, which makes it ideal for basements, crawl spaces, and roofs.

The result?

A more durable, weather-resistant building envelope.

Noise Reduction and Indoor Comfort

Thanks to its sound-dampening properties, open-cell foam is great for reducing outside noise and making your home more comfortable. It also reduces air movement between rooms, improving privacy and consistent indoor temperatures.

Where Spray Foam Insulation Works Best

Spray foam insulation is versatile enough to be used in almost any part of a commercial or residential building. If it’s a new build or an existing home, this spray-applied solution adapts to tight corners, irregular surfaces, and hard-to-reach areas.

Attics, basements, garages, and steel buildings are some of the most common and effective applications. These spaces often suffer the most from energy loss, drafts, and poor insulation value.

Closed-cell spray foam insulation is ideal for these areas because it adds structure, seals out moisture, and resists air movement.

In living spaces above garages, spray foam can make a major difference. One homeowner shared how a ceramic floor above the garage used to feel 18°C colder than the room. After replacing fibreglass insulation with closed cell spray foam, the temperature difference dropped to just 2°C—plus, no more frozen pipes.

From walls and ceilings to crawl spaces and steel frames, spray foam is easy to apply and incredibly effective. Open cell spray is excellent for interior walls and soundproofing, while closed cell foam adds strength and water resistance where needed most.

No matter where foam is applied, it’s designed to improve a building or home’s energy performance from the ground up.

Why Choose Spray Foam Over Traditional Insulation?

When comparing insulation options, spray foam stands out for performance, longevity, and total value over time. While fibreglass insulation and cellulose are lower in upfront foam insulation cost, they don’t match spray foam’s ability to reduce air leakage or resist heat transfer.

Spray foam acts as both an insulating material and air barrier, filling every gap as it expands. That means fewer cold spots, better comfort with spray, and reduced strain on HVAC systems. Open-cell foam is great for soundproofing and filling interior cavities, while closed cell spray foam adds rigidity and moisture resistance.

The R-value per inch of closed-cell spray foam insulation is among the highest of any product. It’s a top choice for builders aiming to improve a building’s energy profile and long-term durability.

In terms of return on investment, the higher insulating value of spray foam means lower energy costs year after year. It also lasts longer, won’t settle or sag, and resists mould and moisture, which cuts down on maintenance in the future.

Thanks to its building science benefits and two-component application, spray foam provides a smarter, more complete solution than traditional fibreglass or cellulose ever could.

Local Expertise: Spray Foam in Calgary & Lethbridge

Alberta’s climate demands serious insulation. Winters are long and cold, while summers bring heat that seeps through poorly sealed walls and ceilings. If your insulation isn’t up to the task, your energy costs spike, and your comfort drops.

That’s where local expertise makes a difference. In areas like Calgary and Lethbridge, knowing how to apply the right type of spray foam in the right place is key. Regardless of whether it’s a heated garage, steel building, or unvented attic, not all buildings need the same approach.

At {{dc:global:site_title}}, we’ve spent years working with Alberta’s toughest weather conditions. We use both open cell and closed cell spray foam insulation to deliver maximum efficiency based on the structure, layout, and environment.

Every project is handled by certified installers who understand how to make spray foam perform its best because, in our climate, proper insulation isn’t optional.

Our driveways is the first impression someone gets of our home.  If the driveway is sunken, it can be a stain on a well designed and well kept home.  It probably has you wondering why it sank or settled in the first place.  There are a number of reasons.

The Foundation

The way in which the driveway was poured can be the problem for sunken concrete.  Improperly packed foundations underneath the driveway can cause this problem.  If an inadequate layer of packing stone was placed prior to pouring the concrete, this can cause concrete to sink and settle becoming uneven.  In order to ensure this doesn’t occur packing stone should be at least two inches.

Crack That Was Not Repaired

Cracks in your driveway need to be repaired.  Leaving them can allow water to enter into the crack and damage the ground underneath, eroding it resulting in a compromised foundation.  This can even lead to a sink hole that allows the concrete to sink and become uneven.

A Busted Pipe

Waterlines underneath the driveway can crack or break which will create water erosion and potentially a sink hole.  This once again cause driveways to sink and become uneven.

Sinking that Happens Quickly

If a driveway sinks within the first five years of ownership this is often the result of poor workmanship.  The most common reason for this is because the builder did not do the foundation properly or the result of leaving stumps from trees that were removed underneath the driveway.  The decay of these tree stumps can lead to a sinking driveway.

How Can We Help?

We can lift and level your concrete driveway using polyurethane foam.  Our process to do so takes a matter of hours and not days.  Contact us for a free estimate.

{{dc:global:site_title}} has been working with polyurethane foam for more than a decade.  We understand the benefits of polyurethane foam for lifting concrete better than other methods.  Our process for providing a quality solution and services in a matter of hours and not days is as follows:

1. We drill 1-inch diameter holes into the sunken concrete in strategic locations that ensure that the concrete will lift and level properly.

2. Injection ports are inserted into the concrete and foam is injected through these ports so as to lift and level the concrete.  Having knowledge of foam and its expanding properties ensures that the concrete is not lifted beyond that which is required

3. The last step of the process is to fill the holes with a non-shrinking grout

The A-1 Concrete Leveling Cleveland West process for leveling concrete, sometimes called mudjacking, allows us to return uneven concrete to its original level position without the cost of pouring new concrete. At it’s simplest form, we fill any void under your slab with a slurry mixture which in turn lifts the concrete in place. It is safe and effective for many applications and in most cases can be completed in a matter of hours instead of days for new concrete.

  1. Small holes (1-inch diameter) are drilled through the sunken concrete block at strategic locations.
  2. A finely crushed, highly dense limestone aggregate (sometimes combined with Portland cement), is combined with water in a “slurry” consistency then pumped into the holes. Once any voids, created by erosion or soil compaction, have been filled, the block will begin to rise. As the slurry begins to flow under the slab, it exerts an even pressure across the entire slab and can easily raise the concrete. Through strategic placement of the drilled holes, and control of the amount of material injected into each, the block will be carefully raised into final position.
  3. During the last step, the drill holes are patched and smoothed out.

Applications for polyurethane foam lifting and levelling include: sidewalks, patios, pools, driveways, steps, porches, garage floors, and interior slabs.

NOTE:  You can save over 100% by lifting and levelling your concrete then replacing it.

The equipment is costly and the material is 4 to 5 times more expensive than mudjacking.  Why would polyurethane concrete raising be

I’ve been hearing about polyurethane concrete raising for the past 20 years.  Having been in the mudjacking business for the past 35 years, I thought that because the process was so expensive it would come and go.

There are many advantages to using polyurethane foam over mud-jacking when it comes to lifting and levelling concrete that has sunken.  These advantages include waterproofing, lightweight and strong, durable, fast curing and installation, very little disruption, and the ability to provide custom solutions.

WATERPROOFING

Polyurethane foam is hydrophobic meaning that even the presence of water under the concrete being raised and levelled does not hinder the process.  The foam will work while mud-jacking can be watered down and not provide the correct result.  This also means that the foam will not be impacted if the reason why the concrete sunk was as a result of water erosion, where as “mud” can be eroded over time.

LIGHTWEIGHT

Polyurethane foam is extremely lightweight.  Foam is 2.5 to 4.0 pounds per cubic foot where “mud” can be on average 100 lbs per cubic foot.  This means that the foam will not put additional pressure on the foundation under the concrete leading to additional sinking and settling.  Lightweight compared to Mudjacking

Lightweight compared to Mudjacking

Being lightweight does not mean that it is not strong.  Polyurethane foam hardens to a strength of 30-50 psi compared to the compressive strength of most substrates around 3-5 psi.

DURABLE

“Mud” can break down overtime and if water is the cause of the concrete sinking and settling then this can be especially true.  Foam hardens within minutes and remains stable.  It does not breakdown over time.

FAST INSTALLATION

Mud-jacking can take up to 24 to 75 hours whereas most jobs done by foam can be completed within a couple of hours.  As well, because it hardens quickly it can be used immediately after completion of the project.

VERY LITTLE DISRUPTION

Foam injection is very clean compared to the use of “mud”.  “Mud” typically involves a lot of mess and cleanup.  With foam a 1 inch to 1 5/8 inch holes are drilled into the cement and foam is injected under the concrete.  Once it expands it lifts the concrete to a level position.  Due to the fact that the substance flows and fills in the cavity less holes are needed to lift and level the concrete.

CUSTOM SOLUTIONS

Foam comes in a variety of densities and formulations to address various conditions.  Lower density materials can be used for residential applications where heavy traffic areas like commercial or industrial floors may require higher density foams.

So if your are looking at lifting and levelling your concrete, call us.  We are experts in spray foam solutions to handle your sunken concrete.

When it comes to insulating your home or business, it’s not just about immediate comfort—it’s about making a smart long-term investment. Spray foam insulation has become one of the most popular choices for property owners looking to maximize energy efficiency, reduce utility bills, and increase the overall value of their buildings. While the upfront cost can be slightly higher compared to traditional materials, the savings it generates over time make it a wise financial decision. Here’s how spray foam insulation continues to save you money year after year.

1. Lower Energy Bills

The most immediate and noticeable way spray foam insulation saves you money is by significantly lowering your energy bills. Spray foam creates an airtight seal that prevents conditioned air from escaping and outdoor air from entering. This reduces the workload on your heating and cooling systems, allowing them to operate more efficiently.

Homeowners and business owners who switch to spray foam often see up to a 50% reduction in heating and cooling costs. Over the course of a year—and especially over the life of the building—that adds up to thousands of dollars saved.

2. Smaller HVAC System Requirements

Because spray foam insulation greatly improves a building’s ability to retain indoor temperatures, it often allows property owners to install smaller, less expensive heating and cooling systems. A smaller HVAC system costs less to purchase, install, and maintain over time.

Additionally, the reduced strain on the system results in fewer repairs, less maintenance, and a longer lifespan, all of which contribute to long-term financial savings.

3. Reduced Maintenance and Replacement Costs

Traditional insulation materials like fiberglass or cellulose can settle, sag, or degrade over time, leading to gaps and reduced effectiveness. Spray foam, however, cures into a rigid, durable form that doesn’t shift or lose its shape.

Because of its longevity, property owners don’t have to worry about costly re-insulation projects down the road. One quality spray foam application can last for decades without significant loss of performance, eliminating the need for ongoing insulation maintenance.

4. Increased Property Value

Energy-efficient homes and commercial buildings are highly desirable in today’s real estate market. Buyers recognize the long-term value of a property that offers lower utility costs and better indoor comfort.

Having spray foam insulation can make your property stand out and may allow you to command a higher selling price. Plus, with energy efficiency certifications or green building labels, you can add even more value when it’s time to sell.

5. Protection Against Moisture Damage

Spray foam insulation also acts as a moisture barrier, sealing out water and reducing the risk of mold, mildew, and structural rot. These issues can be incredibly expensive to repair and often aren’t covered by standard insurance policies if they result from poor maintenance.

By investing in spray foam, you’re proactively protecting your property from moisture-related damages that could otherwise cost thousands of dollars in repairs.

6. Tax Credits and Incentives

Depending on where you live, you may also qualify for government tax credits, rebates, or energy-efficiency incentives when you choose spray foam insulation. These financial perks can offset some of the upfront costs and contribute to even faster returns on your investment.

It’s worth checking with your local utility provider or government energy programs to find out what options are available to you.

Conclusion

While the initial investment in spray foam insulation might seem higher than other options, the financial benefits far outweigh the upfront cost. Lower energy bills, smaller HVAC system requirements, reduced maintenance, higher property value, moisture protection, and potential tax credits all work together to deliver substantial, year-after-year savings.

Why are we such advocates of spray foam? Here’s why!

Insulation technology has come a long way in the last few decades. A spray foam insulation system has significant environmental benefits over conventional insulation, and its performance and energy efficiency ratings are unparalleled. Spray foam is a superior insulation that combines building science technology with design performance.

Here are our top three reasons why we recommend spray foam insulation for our customers.

insulated industrial ceiling

Energy efficiency

Spray foam insulation delivers optimal energy efficiency by controlling energy-robbing air leakages. Your furnace and air conditioning equipment doesn’t have to work so hard, and it could allow you to install smaller, less expensive HVAC equipment. Spray foam insulation will not sag or settle in your walls over time, so retains its rated R-value through the life of your building. With a building’s routine expansion and contracting, flexible spray foam never stops sticking to your walls, so air gaps cannot develop. We’ve seen time and again that spray foam insulation reduces energy costs by up to 50% when compared to conventional insulation.

Healthier air

Spray foam insulation is a healthier alternative to conventional insulation. It is a water-based product containing none of the harmful chemicals and gases often associated with other insulation. By completely sealing the building envelope, spray foam provides a protective barrier preventing allergens, dust and mold spores from entering the home. This can reduce the impact of health conditions like asthma and allergies. By minimizing air infiltration, spray foam also reduces the amount of airborne moisture that can result in condensation and the development of mold.

Peace and quiet

Spray foam not only provides a barrier against air leakage, its superior qualities also help control noise inside and outside a building. Tired of hearing running water or vibrating pipes every time a toilet is flushed, or bathtub drained? Want to create a play area or home theatre with an amazing sound design that won’t disturb the rest of the household? Street noise, airplanes, traffic. Forget about it – spray foam turns living and working rooms into harmonious spaces.

insulated walls

We could go on..

Still not convinced? Here are some other reasons why we love spray foam insulation.

Hard-to-insulate areas are a thing of the past.

When you use spray foam, homes or building designs that have creative architectural features like arches, cathedral, domed or vaulted ceilings no longer pose insulation challenges. Rim joists that support floors are notoriously hard to insulate with conventional methods, leading to cold/warm spots and higher energy bills. Spray foam insulation creates an air barrier by filling all gaps, sticks to surrounding materials and delivers ideal R-value all in one step. It’s also ideal for steel-framed homes because it expands to fill all spaces that exist between metal stud wall systems. That beats conventional insulation hands-down.

Hello insulation efficiency – goodbye leakage and high energy bills.

Up to 40% of a home’s energy is lost through uncontrolled air leakage. Openings around plumbing, vents and electrical service entries are responsible for 17% of that. Conventional insulation (fiberglass or cellulose) doesn’t do a good job of stopping air leaks because it sags and settles over time. Whether your warm air is leaking out your house, or cold air and drafts are entering your home, don’t let poor-quality insulation waste your energy and cause discomfort, moisture and air quality issues. Spray foam insulation – combined with weather stripping, plastic window film and caulking – can create powerful barriers and seal gaps for a whole-home solution that prevents your hard-earned money from leaking away.

Moisture in your house leads to damage, increased costs and reduced air quality.

Moisture moves through the walls of your home by air, so insulation that controls air movement can help manage moisture and create a healthier home. Moisture builds up inside a home through daily activities like cooking and showering. If hot, humid air is trapped in a home, your air conditioner works harder to remove humidity, increasing cooling costs. Excess moisture not adequately removed can lead to mold issues. We recommend a combination of spray foam insulation to create an air barrier to stop condensation on inside walls, along with ventilation to bring in fresh air to help get rid of excess moisture.

Older building or home? Update easily with new technology.

Over our four decades in the business, {{dc:global:site_title}} has developed innovative ways of injecting spray foam into older buildings with hard-to-access nooks and crannies. Homeowners reap the benefit of increased insulation R-value at a much lower cost than completing a full-scale renovation. Spray foam reduces energy costs, enhances sound proofing, improves indoor air quality and won’t damage existing walls.

When people think about insulation, they often focus on saving money on energy bills or keeping their home warm in the winter and cool in the summer. While these are major benefits, one of the less talked-about advantages is how proper insulation—especially spray foam insulation—can significantly improve indoor air quality and overall comfort.

If you’re looking to create a healthier living or working environment, understanding the connection between insulation and air quality is key. Here’s how proper insulation makes a lasting difference.

1. Sealing Out Pollutants

Traditional insulation methods, like fiberglass batts or blown-in cellulose, can leave small gaps and cracks that allow outdoor air to enter your home. This air often carries pollutants like dust, pollen, smog, mold spores, and even pests.

Spray foam insulation acts as an effective air barrier, sealing up every crack, gap, and seam. By blocking these entry points, it helps to dramatically reduce the number of pollutants that can invade your indoor environment, leading to cleaner, healthier air for you and your family.

2. Reducing Allergens and Asthma Triggers

If you or someone in your household suffers from allergies or asthma, insulation plays a major role in symptom control. Airborne allergens such as pollen, mold, and dust mites can easily infiltrate poorly insulated homes. When you properly insulate using spray foam, you limit the points of entry for these irritants.

Spray foam insulation also controls moisture levels, reducing the likelihood of mold growth—a major trigger for asthma and allergy flare-ups. With better insulation, you’ll experience fewer sneezing fits, less respiratory irritation, and an overall improvement in indoor comfort.

3. Controlling Moisture and Humidity

Moisture control is essential for maintaining both indoor air quality and the structural integrity of your home. High humidity levels encourage mold growth, musty odors, and bacterial spread, all of which can negatively impact your health.

Spray foam insulation acts as a moisture barrier, preventing humid outdoor air from entering and controlling the indoor humidity levels. This not only makes your space feel more comfortable year-round but also protects your home from costly water damage and unhealthy mold infestations.

4. Maintaining Consistent Temperatures

Proper insulation doesn’t just improve air quality; it also makes your living or working space far more comfortable. With inadequate insulation, you might notice drafts, cold spots, or rooms that are significantly hotter or colder than others. This can make day-to-day living uncomfortable and even stressful.

Spray foam insulation ensures consistent indoor temperatures by tightly sealing your building envelope. No more chilly winter drafts or overly hot upstairs bedrooms in the summer. Instead, you get even, reliable comfort in every corner of your space.

5. Reducing Indoor Noise Pollution

Another often-overlooked benefit of proper insulation is soundproofing. Spray foam insulation absorbs sound waves, helping to reduce noise transmission from outside traffic, neighbors, or even between rooms in your home or business.

A quieter environment isn’t just a luxury—it contributes to reduced stress levels, better concentration, and improved overall well-being. Whether you’re working from home, trying to get a good night’s sleep, or simply enjoying a peaceful evening, proper insulation makes a noticeable difference.

6. Creating a Healthier, Happier Space

Indoor air quality has a direct impact on your health, mood, and productivity. Studies show that breathing cleaner air improves cognitive function, reduces the risk of illness, and even boosts your overall sense of well-being.

By investing in high-quality spray foam insulation, you’re not just making your building more energy-efficient—you’re creating a safer, healthier, and more comfortable environment for everyone inside.

Conclusion

Proper insulation is one of the smartest investments you can make for your property. It seals out harmful pollutants, controls moisture, stabilizes indoor temperatures, and even minimizes noise—all contributing to better indoor air quality and year-round comfort.
